Registrations are Coming In!

If you are planning to attend this year's Wings to the Spirit Conference, please be sure to register soon. More than half of the places are now reserved, and the conference is just over a month away. Though many of you have been in touch with us and have indicated that you plan to come, please know that a spot is not guaranteed until we receive a registration form and deposit. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Meals at the Conference

If you have any meal restrictions, or are a vegetarian, please let us know as soon as possible so that the kitchen can prepare for your needs. You can add this information to your registration form, or if you have already registered, please email us at info@wingstothespirit.org.

If you will have guests staying with you who are not attending the conference (spouses, children, guests) please know that they are welcome to attend the two public events on Friday and Saturday evenings. Also, guests are welcome to join you for meals at individual prices (Breakfast is $5.00, Lunch is $7.00 and Dinner is $10.00 per person). But please be sure to let us know if you plan on inviting your guests to meals so that the hotel can plan to have enough food for all. Payment for individual meals may be made at the time of the Conference in the Market Place.

Highlight: Friday's Presentation

The 2010 Wings Conference highlight for this newsletter is the public event that begins the conference on Friday, May 14 (at 7:30 p.m.). Our speaker will be Dr. Sue Walker, Poet Laureate of Alabama. Dr. Walker's poetry, prose works, and community service have deservedly garnered numerous awards, grants, and fellowships. She is the author of 7 books of poetry, including Blood Will Bear Your Name, which won Book of the Year from Alabama State Poetry Society and which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. Her new volume is due out from River's Edge Press in late May 2010.

And what's in store for us? Dr. Walker describes it as follows:

Alphabetically Speaking: How to reverse our lives from A – Z

Art is advice, is anthills, is Aristotle pulling his right ear, is a
Baha'i befriending, bonding, balm of bountiful blessings because
Celebration is creation, is Johnny Cash singing with Sheryl Crow

So as not to give too much away, Dr. Walker advises, "We’ll arrive the same—and leave differently, totally revised!"

“That day will the Cause spread like wildfire when its spirit and teachings are presented on the stage or in art and literature as a whole. Art can better awaken such noble sentiments than cold rationalizing, especially among the mass of the people.”
